That might be normal, but I'm curious how many lenses they released when the DX format cameras originally went on sale. May have only been a few.

Hello! Yes, according to website below, the earliest DX lenses were released in 2003 and there were only 3 of them:

      12-24mm f/4
      17-55mm f/2.8
      10.5mm f/2.8

I will eventually buy an EOSR (or maybe its successor in a few years), but have no intention of giving up my DSLRs any time soon.

I imagine DSLR’s will be pretty much dead in 10 years. Plenty of people will still be using older models, but the manufacturers won’t really be making them anymore.

Soon we might not have much of a choice. Nikon is already planning not to update some of it’s DSLR line.

When Nikon announced its Z Series full-frame mirrorless camera system last year, it called the Z mount "the new light that Nikon will use to pioneer the

It’s the right move. Once you shoot mirrorless for a few weeks you won’t want to go back. Just being able to see your actual exposure right in the view finder makes all the difference!

I’m sure a lot of people will hold out as long as possible (there is something satisfying about the sound that mirror makes in a DSLR), but the new LCD viewfinders render them pretty much obsolete now. A bot loghter too, so carrying around all day at a car show or racing event is a little more comfortable... unless you are adapting some big glass.

Depends. Are you looking for full-frame or crop? Do you already own lenses? What is your budget? Etc...

Looking for fullframe. Probably looking to spend $3000. I have a nikon 1j5 so no lenses that carry over.

In your price range, you will be looking at the Z6, EOSR, or a7III. I personally think the EOSR falls a little short compared to the Z6, but I’m a little biased toward Nikon. The a7III is a really good option as well. They are all priced very similarly and have their pluses and minuses. Since you will need new lenses regardless of which way you go, it really just depends on personal preference. You need to check them out in person to see which feels the best.

I do like my nikon but I am curious about the a7iii. Does it have anything the z6 doesn't? I guess I should probably read up on them more lol.

Yes, if you are serious about buying, you absolutely need to do some research. But to answer your question, the Sony has two memory card slots and more native lenses (for now). You can adapt all of the moderen F-mount lenses to the Z series cameras though, so that’s not really a big deal.

Definitely need to check them out in person as well. The Nikon feels better to hold, which is very important. You can’t go wrong with the technology of either though.
